OTTAWA - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Royal Touch Foods are warning the public not to consume Shopsy's deli-fresh Classic Reuben sandwiches because they may be contaminated with Listeria.
The affected product is sold in a 180-gram package with best before dates of Aug. 22 and Aug. 24 and the UPC code 7 76393 17001 8.
The CFIA says the recall is being initiated because the product contains sliced corned beef, one of the ready-to-eat deli meat products recalled by Maple Leaf Foods earlier this month.
A small number of the sandwiches were sold at a half a dozen Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Toronto and at Bloor Superfresh Mart in Toronto. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the sandwiches.
Consumption of food tainted with Listeria can lead to high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
The CFIA and Royal Touch Foods list the following locations where the sandwiches were sold: Shoppers Drug Mart 390 Queens Quay; Shoppers Drug Mart, 388 King Street West; Shoppers Drug Mart 10 Dundas Street,; Shoppers Drug Mart, 465 Yonge Street; Shoppers Drug Mart, 4990 Yonge Street; Shoppers Drug Mart 5776 Yonge Street; and Bloor Superfresh Mart, 186 Bloor Street.
