One day he was managing a local butcher shop. The next day he became Toronto's newest multi-millionaire after winning $14.5 million playing Lotto 6/49.
But no amount of money is enough to keep Jose Lima from going back to work at the Nosso Talho butcher at 1042 Bloor St. West near Dufferin where he's invested 23 years of his life building a name for himself as "Joe from the butcher shop."
The 52-year-old father of two is determined not to let his new found fortune go to his head.
"I have to relax a little bit more," he said.
Besides sharing the jackpot with family and friends, Lima generously gave each of his 50 co-workers a cheque for $5,000 Friday.
"It's a testament to his generosity. He was generous before he won the lottery," said Robert Lima, Jose's nephew.
And the modest millionaire has plans to keep on giving. On Thursday, April 3rd, Lima will hand out 5,000 ten-pound boxes of chicken legs to customers and the needy in the area. He told media he chose that day in loving memory of his father, Joao, who died five years ago on that date.
"It's the best way to reach everybody, to give everybody a chance to have something," Robert added.
The doors will open at 10am Thursday for the big chicken giveaway.
